Steel Drumming At the Apollo
Lee & Low
This 56-page book tells the story of seven exceptionally talented teen musicians from Schenectady, NY, who come together to compete on Amateur Night at the world-famous Apollo Theater. The reader hears in the boys’ own words how the passion for music kindled in each one in childhood, how it fuels their present, and will shape their futures. Readers can hear their music, too, in the CD that comes with the book. The CD includes the song they played onstage at the Apollo plus a track of original music from each musician in the band. This book was done in collaboration with children’s book author Trish Marx.
